UPDATE: What is SkyAngel IPTV Service?

What is IPTV?

  • IPTV stands for Internet Protocol TeleVision
  • IPTV is delivered through the Internet.
  • IPTV is a system where a digital television service is delivered, using the Internet protocol, over a network infrastructure that is brought to the customer's home via a broadband Internet connection.

Is IPTV considered streaming?
  • IPTV, through advanced and proven technology, is not the same as what consumers might consider to be traditional web streaming and provides a real viewing experience on the TV.

How easy is set up?
  • The IPTV set-top box connects to the TV the same way a VCR or satellite receiver does. The connection to the Internet can be done through a home network with either an Ethernet cable connected to the box or through a wireless network card depending on what the viewer has and where he wants the service to be viewed.
  • Based on early tests, the box has been set up and the viewer watching a program in less than 15 minutes from start to finish, as long as the Internet connection is already in place.
  • We expect the box to be shipped already authorized with the programming ready to be watched once connected to the viewer's Internet and TV.

How easy is IPTV to use?
  • Just like a satellite receiver or cable box, a remote control is used to access the program the viewer wants to watch.
  • The box and remote are very user-friendly, with a detailed on-screen menu and guide; viewers will be able to use the remote control to access the entire menu of selections.
  • Support for any problems in most cases will be able to be completed over the phone, removing the need for a repair technician to visit the location.

What are some special features the IPTV service may offer?
  • Retrieve a program up to 48 hours in the past just by pressing the back button while on the on-screen guide.
  • Able to be installed wherever a broadband Internet connection is available
  • Remote control ordering of Video on Demand
  • DVR features like pause and fast-forward available on VOD programs
  • Instant On feature allows the viewer to quickly change from one channel to the next.
  • Detailed on-screen program information
  • A "Today's Weather" page provides updated weather based on the customer zip code or any zip code entered.
  • On screen My Account feature
  • Resume watching a VOD program hours or days later where the viewer left off with My Bookmark
  • Future enhanced interactively features like instant messaging, online scheduling, shopping and more
  • Compact box that can easily travel

What is the minimum speed required to watch the IPTV service?
  • The level of Internet service is still to be determined, but the industry recommendation is a throughput connection with more than 1-1.5 Mbps. Viewers unsure of their speed can contact their Internet Service Provider or do a quick speed evaluation test at http://www.speakeasy.net/.

What if the Internet connection is briefly interrupted?
  • The IPTV service will "buffer" the program for up to 30-60 seconds, allowing for uninterrupted viewing if the viewer's Internet connection is restored within that time. There may be a slight "catch up" time, but we've found this to not overly distract from the viewing experience.

What if the computer and television are not in the same room?
  • This is not a problem. The viewer simply needs to have a wireless router that will send the signal from their broadband modem to the IPTV set-top box, which is connected to the TV set.
  • A wireless router can be purchased from an Internet Service Provider or local electronics store.

Can the programming be recorded to a VCR or DVD recorder?
  • The IPTV set-top box can be connected to any home recording device just as any other receiving unit is.
  • Remember, a special feature of this service is that the viewer will be able to go back 48 hours if a program is missed.

Can the service be watched on multiple televisions? …
  • Yes. A set-top box* is needed for each television the viewer wants to watch a different channel on. (*Each additional box in the house may carry additional monthly fees.)

Will the IPTV service be the same quality as the Sky Angel satellite service?
  • Through advanced IPTV technology, the IPTV service will deliver a comparable picture to satellite, and with enhanced features.
